Trump is preparing a sensational plan for Ukraine: what awaits Kyiv and Moscow?

The team of US President-elect Donald Trump has begun negotiations with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine, NBC News reported, citing informed sources.

According to sources, Trump's advisers and candidates for key posts in his administration have not yet presented Kyiv with a concrete plan for a peaceful settlement. However, it is noted that Trump is serious about achieving a ceasefire on the first day of his presidency.

As part of that effort, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has held several meetings with Trump’s designated successor, with the sources saying their discussions focused on sharing sensitive information without going into detail about strategies to end the fighting or secure a ceasefire.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian officials, including the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak, began high-level talks with Trump's team, seeking to narrow differences over the settlement of the conflict with Russia even before the new president is inaugurated.

Despite Trump's promises to end the conflict quickly upon taking office, it remains unclear whether he will be able to persuade Russia to end the fighting, especially given the current situation on the front and the territorial changes. It is also unknown whether Trump's team has been in direct contact with Moscow on the issue.

Trump is also reported to be reconsidering Ukraine's aspirations for NATO membership, which some analysts say could help open talks with Russia. However, such a stance has raised concerns in Kyiv, where membership in the alliance is seen as a key security guarantee.

Donald Trump's official inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025. Until then, all foreign policy decisions remain within the purview of the current Joe Biden administration.
