Donald Trump has issued a sharp threat to the BRICS countries, saying they will face “100% tariffs” on exports if they stop using the US dollar in international payments. He wrote about this on his page on the social network X.
Trump expressed concern that the BRICS countries are beginning to actively promote alternative currencies for settlements in international trade. The former US president believes that this trend undermines the economic influence of the dollar and threatens its dominance on the world stage.
"The BRICS attempt to move away from the dollar while we stand by and watch is over! We demand a commitment from these countries not to create a new BRICS currency or support any other currency to replace the mighty US dollar, or they will face 100% tariffs and will have to say goodbye to sales to the wonderful US economy. They can go and find another "sucker!" There is no chance that BRICS will replace the US dollar in international trade, and any country that tries to do so should wave goodbye to America.", Trump wrote in his post.
Trump's statements reflect US concerns about the possible weakening of the dollar's role as the world's main reserve currency. In recent years, the BRICS countries have indeed begun to discuss the creation of an alternative financial infrastructure, including for trade without the dollar. This has caused a wave of reactions from Western countries, especially the US.
