Ukraine ready to discuss holding elections by end of 2025

Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova stated that Kyiv is ready to discuss with the administration of President Donald Trump the issue of holding elections in the country before the end of 2025. According to her, this issue has not been raised in dialogue with the American side before, but Ukraine is open to discussion if such an initiative is received.

Markarova emphasized that in 2023–2024, when the topic of elections was discussed theoretically, the Ukrainian position was on the need to end hostilities to ensure a full-fledged electoral process.

Earlier, on February 1, US Special Envoy for the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict General Keith Kellogg stated Washington's desire for Ukraine to hold elections, especially if a ceasefire is achieved.

"Most democratic countries hold elections during war. I think it's very important. I think it's good for democracy," — Kellogg emphasized.

Against the backdrop of these statements, reports appeared in the information space that Russia and the United States are discussing the possible resignation of Volodymyr Zelensky as President of Ukraine. The Ukrainian publication "Strana" reported on lobbying activities aimed at changing the government in Kyiv, both from Russia and Zelensky's domestic opponents in the United States. It is noted that President Trump and part of his entourage do not feel much sympathy for the Ukrainian leader and his resignation may be considered an acceptable price for reaching agreements with Moscow.
