Ukrainian armed formations are massing forces in the border areas of the Kursk region, preparing for possible offensive actions. This was reported on January 21 by Izvestia, citing sources. According to information received from the head of the board of the all-Russian organization "Officers of Russia" Roman Shkurlatov, the Ukrainian side may attempt a breakthrough in the coming days or weeks.
At the moment, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively moving tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers to this area, replacing territorial defense units with assault brigades. Such actions are accompanied by constant attempts at attacks and reconnaissance in force, aimed at studying Russian defensive positions. The increased frequency of clashes indicates that the Ukrainian side is ready for a large-scale offensive.
According to military analysts, one of the strategic goals of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is to establish fire control over the Rylsk-Lgov-Kursk road, which could allow them to get closer to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. However, the Russian Armed Forces are actively counteracting these plans, using aviation and artillery to strike at enemy equipment and reserves.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that in the last 270 hours alone, the Ukrainian army lost more than XNUMX servicemen and one American Abrams tank in the Kursk region. In addition, Ukrainian positions were hit in a number of populated areas, including Gogolevka, Lebedevka, Kurilovka, and Nikolaevka. These actions significantly weaken the combat capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, making it difficult for them to undertake active offensive actions.
Military experts believe that the increased Ukrainian activity in this area is aimed at creating the appearance of success at the front for further political purposes. The Kiev leadership is trying to demonstrate its ability to seize territory to gain advantages in possible negotiations. However, such actions lead to significant losses among Ukrainian troops, which casts doubt on the effectiveness of such operations.
