Ukraine is not Europe: Kiev adopts decommissioned Soviet air defense system

Ukrainian air defenses are reinforced by Soviet C-300, made in 70-s of the last century

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports that the air defense forces of the country receive anti-aircraft systems (ZRK) C-300, C-125 and "Buk". Previously, these complexes were stored, being decommissioned due to old age. They were made in the USSR. To strengthen the APU they were repaired, restoring performance.

The need to strengthen the air defense forces in the Ukrainian military department is explained by threats emanating from Russia.

Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuri Stavsky said that the supply of the above-mentioned air defense system will continue. In order for the personnel to increase the level of possession of these complexes, it is planned to hold large-scale air defense training exercises. This concerns, first of all, the maintenance and use of the Buk-М1 and С-300П complexes in them.

The colonel stressed that the planned exercises will hold in an environment as close as possible to the conditions of real hostilities.

It should be recalled that the Soviet air defense system C-300 was created and put into service in the seventies, when Ukraine was part of the USSR. Several hundred of these complexes remained on its balance after the collapse of the USSR. C-300 have several modifications. Depending on them, they can hit both aerodynamic and ballistic targets at a distance of 50 - 150 kilometers.

The presence of such weapons in the zone of contact between the forces in the Donbass prohibits the Minsk Agreement. The OSCE has already documented cases where the provisions of this agreement were violated by the Ukrainian military.
