Ukraine will receive Abrams M1A1 tanks from the US instead of Abrams M1A2

The United States has revised the supply of its tanks to Ukraine.

Despite the fact that Washington initially promised to provide Ukraine with 31 Abrams M1A2 tanks, it turned out that the United States did not have the opportunity to provide these combat vehicles to Ukraine before 2025. Against this background, the United States revised the supply of tanks and decided to send Abrams M1A1 tanks to Ukraine, the latter should appear in the Armed Forces of Ukraine before the end of autumn 2023, however, these tanks are outdated and not so reliable.

“In order to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine faster, the Pentagon decided to provide an older version - the Abrams M1A1. The original plan called for 31 tanks of the M1A2 version, which could take 1-2 years to produce and deliver. In this regard, it was decided to send an older version of the M1A1, which could be taken from army stocks "- sources say.

At the same time, it remains unknown whether the supply of Abrams M1A2 tanks to Ukraine will continue in the future, since there are no official reports or notifications about the cancellation of these deliveries.

Estimated, Abrams M1A1 tanks are comparable to T-90A tanks and do not have sufficient protection against modern ATGMs.
