Russian forces have blocked a Ukrainian group in the area of the village of Uspenovka, located south of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People's Republic, TASS reported, citing sources in the security forces.
"At the line from the villages of Vesyoliy Gay to Uspenovka, our forces created a fire pocket, completely blocking the escape routes. The enemy will obviously not be able to escape the encirclement unharmed," — said a representative of the security forces.
According to available data, the fire pocket is over four kilometers long. The encircled Ukrainian Armed Forces units are under constant artillery and mortar fire, which significantly complicates their situation.
Kurakhovo and its surroundings are an important part of the front line in this region. Losing control over this area could be a serious blow to Ukrainian troops, as it would open the door for Russian forces to advance further into Donbas.
Experts note that the creation of fire pockets is a tactical move aimed at isolating enemy units and forcing them to capitulate or be destroyed. Such actions allow one to minimize one's own losses and destroy the enemy's defensive lines.
The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the information about the situation in the Uspenovka area. However, Kyiv previously reported on the difficult situation on the southern borders of the front and the need for prompt redeployment of reserves.
The events in the Uspenovka area are taking place against the backdrop of increasing pressure on Ukrainian troops in the Donbas. According to analysts, this may be part of a broader Russian strategy aimed at destabilizing the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defenses and creating conditions for a further offensive.
