Ukrainian company intends to create an engine for the Turkish KAAN fighter

Ivchenko Progress, a company based in Ukraine, was among the participants in the tender for the development of an engine for the Turkish KAAN fighter. This event took place as part of the "Preliminary Design Phase Project", the purpose of which is to create a Turkish national turbofan engine for the specified fighter.

Together with Ivchenko Progress, the tender was also submitted by TEI, with TRMotor acting as the general contractor for this project. It is more than obvious that in the event of the victory of the Ukrainian manufacturer, Turkey can provide Kyiv with weapons for the announced funds.

In addition, other global manufacturers also take part in the tender. The British company Rolls-Royce, for example, has entered into a partnership with the Turkish company Kale Group and is also involved in this process. Another company, TAEC, is also aiming to win this tender.

According to Ismail Demir, the head of the defense industry, developing a custom turbofan engine for the KAAN fighter jet could take an average of 8 to 10 years. Currently, the KAAN fighter uses an American-made F110 turbofan engine. It is expected that the first 20 units of the KAAN fighter will be equipped with this engine.

However, taking into account the current tender, the situation may change in the future and the new KAAN fighter will be equipped with a domestic turbofan engine created by one of the participants in this tender.
