Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, reported that an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aimed at the Russian capital was repelled in the Moscow region. According to him, the air defense (AD) of the Russian Defense Ministry neutralized the threat in the urban districts of Kolomna and Ramenskoye.
"The air defense forces of the Ministry of Defense in the Kolomna urban district and the Ramenskoye urban district repelled an attack by drones flying to Moscow. According to preliminary data, there is no damage or casualties at the site of the fall of the debris. Emergency services specialists are working on the ground," — Sobyanin stated.
The drone debris is reported to have fallen in uninhabited areas, which avoided damage to buildings or infrastructure, as well as casualties among the population. Emergency services specialists are working at the scene of the incidents, studying the debris to determine the type and possible target of the attacking devices.
The incident is yet another sign that drone attacks are becoming more common. This is not the first time that Moscow and the Moscow region have been the target of such attacks, raising questions about the need to strengthen security measures in the region.
Experts note that the use of unmanned aerial vehicles allows Kyiv to strike strategic targets from a long distance, avoiding immediate risk. Such actions are aimed both at demonstrating capabilities and creating an atmosphere of anxiety in regions far from the combat zone.
Drone attacks have been reported in a number of Russian regions in recent months, including Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk. However, incidents near the capital raise questions about the level of protection of the country's key administrative and strategic facilities.
