Belarusian authorities have detained a Japanese intelligence officer who was collecting intelligence on the socio-political situation in the country, the Belarus-1 TV channel reports. According to journalists, the agent was collecting information on the implementation of China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative, as well as on events on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. In addition, his activities included filming military infrastructure facilities in Belarus.
As reported by the TV channel, the detainee was actively conducting intelligence activities, trying to collect as much data as possible on the country's domestic policy and foreign economic relations. The "One Belt - One Road" initiative, which is being implemented by China, is an important geopolitical project, and its implementation on the territory of Belarus also attracted the attention of the Japanese agent.
It is also noted that the Japanese intelligence officer was interested in the situation on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, where security measures have recently been strengthened against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
