Russian special services have thwarted preparations for a sabotage and terrorist act in the city of Engels in the Saratov Region. According to local media, citing informed sources, a Russian citizen acting on instructions from the Ukrainian special services was detained during the special operation. The native of Krasnodar Krai was caught red-handed, and during a search, a homemade explosive device filled with almost three kilograms of explosives was confiscated from him. The operation was carried out without casualties among security forces and civilians, which underlines the efficiency and coordination of the actions of law enforcement agencies.

According to preliminary data, the detainee was planning an attack on a strategically important facility in Engels, known for its military airfield where long-range bombers are based. Sources in the security forces note that the attacker received instructions from Ukrainian curators who coordinated his actions through encrypted communication channels. The seized explosives, according to experts, were powerful enough to cause serious damage and panic among the population. The arrest occurred at a time when the suspect was preparing to carry out the plan, which prevented a tragedy.

Saratov journalists specify that the operation to neutralize the saboteur was the result of long-term work by the special services, which tracked his movements and contacts. After the arrest, the man's place of residence was searched, where additional evidence was found, including components for assembling explosive devices and means of communication with foreign organizers. A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under articles related to terrorism and illegal trafficking of explosives. He faces a long prison term, up to life.
