An anti-personnel fragmentation mine from the Great Patriotic War was discovered on Nauchny Gorodok Street in Lobnya, Moscow Region. The unusual find was made by a new tenant who had begun renovations in the apartment, where he stumbled upon a dangerous hiding place while opening the floors. According to preliminary data, the explosive device could have belonged to the previous owner of the apartment, who was reportedly engaged in illegal excavations and probably kept artifacts from the war.
Sappers were called to the scene, and emergency services organized the evacuation of 38 residents of the building to ensure safety. The mine defusing operation was successful, after which the evacuees returned to their apartments.
The source says that this case highlights the seriousness of the problem of illegal storage of ammunition and artefacts found by illegal diggers. Experts note that such finds are not only of historical interest, but also a real danger to human life, especially if the ammunition remains in places of residence and is not properly disposed of.
