Russian diplomat and representative of Russia to international organizations Mikhail Ulyanov has denied recent claims by some media outlets about alleged nuclear tests conducted in Iran. In his statement, published on the social network "X" (former Twitter), Ulyanov commented on widespread rumors regarding recent earthquakes in Iran.
In recent days, a number of international publications have suggested that a series of seismic events that occurred in Iran on October 5 could have been caused by nuclear weapons tests. These claims have caused widespread concern amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. However, Mikhail Ulyanov stressed in his statement that such assumptions are groundless.
Ulyanov said the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) had conducted a thorough analysis of seismic data collected from 25 monitoring stations and had found no signs of nuclear testing. He said the signals were consistent with natural earthquakes that occur regularly in Iran due to its geographic location on tectonic faults.
