According to official data, the combat radius of the use of 9М729 missiles is only 400 kilometers, which does not violate the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium and Small-Range Missiles concluded between Russia and the United States. Nevertheless, given the ultimatum put forward by the United States, Russia can modernize the missiles, by not reducing the combat radius of their action, but by increasing it.

Konstantin Sivkov, President of the Information Policy of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, said that Russia can indeed modernize its 9М729 missiles, as the United States demands, but not towards a decrease in the combat radius of their use, but towards an increase.

“It can be modified only in terms of increasing the firing range. Because at the present time the rocket has a short range of fire, and it does not ensure the destruction of ground targets at a long distance. ”, - said Konstantin Sivkov.

Experts, in turn, believe that Washington will not dare to withdraw from the INFMT despite the threateningness of its statements, since this will certainly lead to an arms race and may also lead to an increase in Russia's military potential in Europe, in the Middle East and on the eastern borders.
