Rare 170mm Koksan SPGs Spotted in Russia, Presumably from North Korea

In the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk, self-propelled artillery units of North Korean manufacture M1989 "Koksan" with a caliber of 170 mm were allegedly filmed on an army train. The photo, which appeared online, aroused interest among military analysts and OSINT bloggers, noting the uniqueness of this equipment. This artillery is considered non-standard, since the caliber of 170 mm is not typical for most systems. According to information from Ukrainian bloggers and Russian Telegram channels, the supply of self-propelled artillery units "Koksan" to Russia may be related to the expansion of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

The Koksan self-propelled guns first gained fame in the 1980s when they were used by Iranian forces during the Iran-Iraq War. This is the only confirmed use of these self-propelled guns to date. According to military experts, the Koksan has a long firing range and power, which makes it a valuable tool in conflict situations.

Last year, information appeared about Russia's deliveries of North Korean KN-09 missile systems, an analogue of the American HIMARS. This was reported by military correspondent Andrei Rudenko.
