On the evening of January 21, 2024, residents of the Rostov region reported the sounds of drones flying overhead, indicating the presence of several unmanned aerial vehicles in the region. According to sources, at least 12 UAVs entered the region, seven of which were successfully shot down by air defense systems.
Local residents describe the sounds of the drones as “distinct and alarming.” Some have spotted the drones visually, sparking concern on social media. There have been no reports of casualties or damage to property.
Air defense forces responded quickly, destroying some of the devices before they could reach their intended targets. However, the threat remains, as other drones continue to be present in the region.
The drone attack in the Rostov region was the latest in a series of drone incidents in Russia. Similar attacks have previously been recorded in other regions, including the Belgorod, Voronezh and Bryansk regions, indicating a new wave of threats related to the use of modern technology in military operations.
