Heavy clashes between the Syrian army and armed opposition groups in Aleppo have killed General Ahmad Khudra al-Ali, the head of the region's military security service, local sources and social media reported.
General Al-Ali, who was responsible for coordinating military operations and maintaining security in one of Syria's most tense regions, was killed amid escalating fighting in Aleppo province. His death was a major blow to Syrian government forces struggling to maintain control of strategic areas in and around the city, sources said.
Clashes between the army and opposition groups, including the Syrian National Army and other militias, continue as fighting intensifies in Aleppo and neighboring provinces. Militants are increasing pressure, capturing key positions, including military bases and strategic sites previously under Damascus control.
Experts believe that the death of General Al-Ali will not only undermine the morale of government forces in the region, but will also create additional difficulties in managing defense. Aleppo, which remains one of the main points of confrontation in Syria, is a strategically important region, control over which determines the balance of power in the country.
