In the US, urgently stopped flights of all strategic bombers B-1 Lancer

In the US, suspended the flights of strategic bombers B-1 Lancer

The Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reports that the United States Air Force Command decided to temporarily cease the use of strategic bombers B-1 Lancer. The reason - too much wear and frequent accidents.

As the commander of the strategic aviation of the US Air Force, General Timothy Ray, stressed, the high level of depreciation was due to the operations of the air forces in the Middle East. To perform combat missions, it was necessary to send 40 percent bombers. However, the Air Force for a decade used 65 - 70 percent of the fleet. Such intensity caused the wear of aircraft.

Another reason for the withdrawal of bombers from combat duty became emergency situations. Since May 2018, three abnormal situations have been recorded. All of them are associated with ejection seats aircraft.

During the flight ban period, all B-1 will be carefully checked. It will take from 7 to 10 days to thoroughly inspect one aircraft. In one week, the command checks three planes each at Dyce and two at the Ellsworth airbase in South Dakota.

The B-1 Lancer is a US-developed supersonic strategic bomber with a variable sweep wing. It was adopted by the US Air Force on July 27, 1985. The bomber was designed as a carrier of nuclear weapons, and was supposed to replace the B-52.
