Retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, in a conversation with journalists from Lenta.ru, emphasized the strategic importance of the settlement of Chasov Yar in the current conflict. In his opinion, Chasov Yar is a key point in the line of defense between Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, and its loss could significantly change the course of hostilities.
Matviychuk focused on the fact that the loss of this settlement would have a negative impact on the operational situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). A retreat from Chashi Yar will lead to the need for maneuver and redistribution of forces, which will make it difficult to hold other strategically important positions and may force the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use Kramatorsk as the final point of defense.
The expert emphasizes that the loss of the Yar Hours will not only reduce the prestige of the Ukrainian army, but will also create a direct threat to Kramatorsk, surrendering it to a possible assault. According to Matviychuk, this will open up the opportunity for the Russian military to block the logistics routes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and penetrate deeper into areas adjacent to Kramatorsk, which will strengthen their tactical positions in the region.
