Leonid Otdelnov, commander of a platoon of sappers of the Russian Armed Forces, spoke about the new tactics of the Ukrainian military, using sound traps for mining. As the officer reported in a video distributed by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) began to install explosive devices inside furniture, equipping them with speakers that produce a meowing sound.
“We come in, we hear meowing, let’s say, in the closet – and we can understand that when you open the closet compassionately, there will be an explosion”, Otdelnov explained.
This approach aims to use a human emotional response as a trigger to activate a mine.
According to TASS, Russian Armed Forces sappers encounter various types of explosive devices every day, including unexploded elements of cluster munitions and foreign-made mines. New "sound" traps require additional caution during mine clearance and complicate the work of specialists.
Experts note that using sound to distract attention or provoke certain actions is one of the ways to create psychological pressure on the enemy. This highlights the adaptation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' tactics to changing combat conditions and the desire to use any means to complicate the work of Russian sappers.
