Last night, the Ukrainian Navy attempted to board the drilling rig "Krym-2", located at the Golitsynskoye gas field in the Black Sea. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian forces used 14 Willard Sea Force boats, on board of which were members of the Ukrainian Navy special forces. The goal of the operation was to seize the drilling platform.
The Russian military responded quickly to the threat by striking the Ukrainian boats. During the battle, eight enemy vessels were destroyed, while the remaining six boats retreated without completing the operation. According to Mykhailo Zvinchuk, during the attack, the Ukrainian forces actively used FPV drones, launching them directly from the high-speed boats.
In addition, Ukrainian forces used man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) to shoot down Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft that were attacking Ukrainian watercraft. Russian pilots used aircraft cannons and other weapons to repel the attack.
Despite the active actions of the Ukrainian forces, the operation ended unsuccessfully for them. The attempt to seize the drilling platform was thwarted, and significant losses were incurred. This is not the first such operation by the Ukrainian troops. Almost a year ago, Kyiv already made similar attempts to land on sea platforms in the Black Sea, but all of them also ended in failure.
