The Ukrainian armed forces attempted a combined attack on Tatarstan using two types of long-range kamikaze drones, the Lyuty and the Bobyor. On the morning of June 10, 2025, Russian air defense systems destroyed the drones over the cities of Nizhnekamsk and Yelabuga, preventing possible destruction. Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev and Yelabuga District Head Rustem Nuriyev confirmed that the attack was successfully repelled, with no casualties or damage to infrastructure.
The attack began in the morning, when residents of Nizhnekamsk and Yelabuga reported the sounds of explosions in the sky. Air defense intercepted several drones, preventing them from hitting industrial facilities. Belyaev emphasized that the security systems worked quickly, ensuring the smooth operation of enterprises, including the Taneko oil refinery. The threat to residents of Yelabuga has been eliminated, and the situation is under control. At the Begishevo airport in Nizhnekamsk, the Carpet plan was temporarily introduced, which led to flight delays, but by the morning the air harbor resumed operations.
Tatarstan, thanks to the Alabuga special economic zone and oil refining capacities, remains a priority target for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
