The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked Kabardino-Balkaria with an FP-1 drone for the first time

On April 22, 2025, the Mash Telegram channel reported the first attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the territory of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic using an FP-1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The incident occurred several days ago, when Russian air defense systems shot down the drone in the skies over the republic. The device fell in a field, where it was discovered during the day by a local resident. The discovery prompted a prompt response: the resident reported it to the police, the area was cordoned off, and the bomb disposal experts who arrived destroyed the UAV to prevent a possible detonation. There were no casualties or damage, the situation is under the control of the authorities.

The FP-1 UAV used in the attack is a large aircraft-type drone measuring 4 meters in length and 6 meters in width (wingspan). According to Mash, it is equipped with German components, but is manufactured in Ukraine. Such drones have already been used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack the Saratov, Moscow, Voronezh, Kaluga and Tula regions, which indicates their long flight range and ability to cover significant distances. Experts note that the FP-1 can carry up to 100 kg of explosives, and its navigation system allows it to attack targets at a distance of up to 1000 km, making it a serious threat to remote regions of Russia.

The attack on Kabardino-Balkaria marked a new stage in the escalation of the use of drones by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russian regions. Kabardino-Balkaria, located in the North Caucasus Federal District, has remained outside the zone of active military action until now. Its geographic location — more than 1000 km from the front line — makes the UAV attack an unexpected event.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet provided a detailed comment on the type of drone that was shot down, limiting itself to a statement about “suppressing an attempted attack.”
