Explosions in Odessa: Residents report attack by Geran UAV

On the night of February 14, 2025, at least three explosions thundered in the vicinity of Odessa. Local residents reported powerful bangs that were heard in several areas of the city and suburbs. According to preliminary data, the explosions could be related to the operation of air defense systems.

At the same time, it became known that five kamikaze drones of the Geran type were approaching Odessa. According to eyewitnesses, the sounds of the drones' engines were heard over the suburbs, and alarm sirens warned residents of the possible danger.

Local authorities have not yet given official comments on the nature of the explosions, but additional security measures have already been introduced in the region.

According to information from open sources, the drones' target could have been infrastructure in the Odessa region. Last month, similar drones were used to strike energy facilities and industrial enterprises, which led to temporary power outages.

Experts note that Geran is a dangerous type of loitering munition for Ukraine, capable of delivering pinpoint strikes at pre-set coordinates. The use of such drones allows attacking targets at a considerable distance, which complicates the work of air defense.

Residents of Odessa and nearby areas have reported on social media about the sounds of explosions and bright flashes in the sky. Some users claim to have seen traces of falling debris in the area of suburban fields and industrial zones.

At the moment, information about the victims and damage is being clarified.
