Japan announced control of the four Russian islands in the Kuril Islands.

Due to the fact that Russia stated that it was not ready to transfer to Japan the four Russian islands of the Kuril ridge, in Japan they stated that they have full control over the four islands.

“Japan’s sovereignty extends to the four northern islands (as the Russian southern Kuril Islands are called in Japan). In this our position is unchanged. Statements of any departure from our base position in this regard are not true ”, - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in a statement.

Experts draw attention to the fact that, despite Abe’s statements, the ownership of the islands has not changed, but this can lead to serious problems in further relations between the two countries.

“What Abe says is directed directly at the citizens of his country - he can keep this opinion to himself. Nevertheless, given the level of security of this region, Japan cannot approach these islands closer than the designated borders at all, realizing that Russia's response will be very tough.
