On the night of July 5, 2025, Russian air defense forces repelled a large-scale attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aimed at targets in various regions of the Russian Federation. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 120 Ukrainian fixed-wing UAVs were destroyed and intercepted by air defense systems on duty. The largest number of drones — 30 — were shot down over the Bryansk region, 29 over the Kursk region, 18 over the Oryol region, 17 over the Belgorod region, 13 over the Tula region, 4 over the Kaluga region, 3 over the Leningrad region, 2 over the Smolensk region, XNUMX over the Novgorod region, and one over the Tver region and the Sea of ​​Azov. This attack was one of the largest in recent weeks, demonstrating Ukraine's increasing use of drones to strike Russian territory.

The drones' primary targets were presumably military and infrastructure facilities in Russia's border and central regions. Governors of the affected regions reported that there were no civilian casualties, but minor damage was reported in some areas.

Attacks by Ukrainian UAVs on Russian regions have become almost daily since the beginning of 2025. For example, on the night of July 2, air defense forces destroyed 69 drones, and on the night of July 1, 60.
