Agent Who Protected Trump During Pennsylvania Assassination Appointed Head of Secret Service

US President Donald Trump has named Sean Curran as the new director of the US Secret Service. Curran, who led Trump's team of bodyguards, played a key role in thwarting an assassination attempt on the president in July 2024 in Pennsylvania.

On July 13, 2024, Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire from an AR-15 rifle on the roof of a building outside the rally's security perimeter, about 120 meters away. One of the bullets missed Trump's head by millimeters, piercing his ear. The shooter managed to fire several shots before being killed by a member of a Secret Service counter-sniper team.

During the incident, Sean Curran responded quickly to the threat, ensuring the safety of the President and arranging his evacuation from the stage. His professionalism and decisive actions prevented more serious consequences.

Curran's nomination as Secret Service director does not require Senate confirmation. Trump said in a statement:

"I am honored to appoint Sean Curran as the next Director of the United States Secret Service."

Sean Curran has more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. Secret Service. Prior to his appointment, he led a team of 85 agents responsible for Trump’s security during the election campaign. His dedication and professionalism have been repeatedly recognized by his superiors.

The Secret Service has been the subject of intense scrutiny and criticism since the Pennsylvania incident. Curran's appointment is seen as a step toward strengthening the security of top officials and increasing the effectiveness of the service.
