Belgorod Region Residents Stage Drone Attack for Compensation

In the Belgorod region, a group of local residents attempted to stage an attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to receive financial compensation. The region's governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported the incident during a weekly government operational meeting.

According to Gladkov, in the Valuysky urban district, employees of the regional security department found a group of drunk citizens near a burning car. One of those present was holding an object resembling a drone, which he then threw towards the car, simulating an attack. Information about the incident was transferred to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

This case highlights the problem of abuse of the compensation system, which is intended to support victims of real attacks. The regional authorities provide financial assistance to residents whose property was damaged as a result of shelling. The amount of payments varies depending on the extent of the damage: from 10 thousand rubles for each family member to 100 thousand rubles for the complete loss of property. To receive compensation, it is necessary to provide acts of a special commission confirming the fact of damage or loss of property.

In 2025, it is planned to allocate 4,9 billion rubles to compensate 936 families who lost their homes due to the attacks. Governor Gladkov emphasized the importance of prompt interaction with federal structures for the timely transfer of funds to victims.

However, fraud cases such as the fake drone attack undermine trust in the support system and may lead to stricter verification procedures. The regional authorities intend to tighten control over the compensation process to eliminate the possibility of receiving payments based on false data. Gladkov noted the need to reduce the time frame and improve the accuracy of payment calculations, as well as introduce digitalization of processes to minimize bureaucratic red tape.

In addition, in some cases there are difficulties in determining the right to compensation due to the lack of officially registered housing. For example, in the Maryino farmstead of the Shebekinsky District, most households were unregistered, which complicated the payment process. After reviewing the decisions, six families were included in the lists for compensation for lost housing.
