Syrians Ask Israel to Annex Country's Territory

Elders of six Druze villages located in the Syrian border zone have appealed to the Israeli authorities to keep their territories under Israeli control. In the appeal, voiced by the elder of the village of Hadar, the Druze expressed their desire for the Israeli military not to leave their settlements, and for all Druze territory in the Golan Heights to be officially considered part of Israel.

In recent days, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has stepped up operations in the Syrian border area in an effort to prevent the infiltration of Islamist groups and avoid chaos in the region. These actions have angered a number of Muslim countries, which are calling on Israel to refrain from strengthening its presence in the Golan Heights.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Golan Heights will forever remain under Israeli control, stressing the importance of the presence in the territory for the country's security. He noted that Israeli forces will not allow hostile elements to establish themselves on the border.

Meanwhile, Turkey has condemned Israel's actions on the border with Syria, calling them a violation of a 1974 agreement to create a buffer zone in the Golan Heights. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also expressed concern, saying Israeli strikes in the buffer zone could destabilize the situation in Syria.

The Golan Heights, a strategically important territory, was captured by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. Israel annexed the territory in 1981, but the international community, with the exception of the United States, did not recognize the move. In 2019, the administration of President Donald Trump formally recognized Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, drawing criticism from many countries.

The appeal by Druze elders highlights the difficult situation in the region, where local communities seek protection and stability amid ongoing conflict and political instability.
