Design of unmanned aircraft A-4 «Albatross" began in 1998 year. For its creation were set specific tasks in the first place they touched zoom range in comparison with the type of UAV "Remez". New UAV should run away 20 km. Engineers from CB "Rise" had not only to increase the size of the aircraft, but also to use a new and powerful radio transmission of video and control.

As part of the "Albatross-4» complex remained the same configuration as that of the "Remez-3». But the overall look and feel of all the equipment have changed dramatically.

Scheme A-4 "Albatros" is a classic - a freestanding monoplane with a pushing screw. The highly elongated wing provides high aerodynamic characteristics and sufficient quality of the aircraft's stability, regardless of whether the engine is running or not. In the design of the wing, flaps were used, which improved the take-off characteristics of the UAV. But at the same time the rest of the "Albatross" is very similar to "Remez". In the new apparatus, well-proven practical solutions have already been applied. "Albatross" takes off using a wheeled chassis, which requires an 75-meter level platform. With some modifications, you can use a catapult. The entire flight mode is possible in two ways: in manual mode (operator command) and in automatic mode. But in both types of control, the location and path parameters are determined by the GPS-35 receiver. After processing, the results are transferred to the PC monitor, which is part of the ground complex.

When flying out of sight of the device for the operator, the image is taken from a small-sized video camera installed in front. The FPV camera can be operated at low light levels. For example, at dusk. Sufficient stability of the aircraft during maneuvering and in flight with high wind speeds is ensured by the PNK Vzlyot navigation complex.

Watch the terrain can be with a camera with interchangeable lenses. The camera is mounted on a swinging platform, which may deviate in two planes of operator commands. This functionality allows you to see objects that are on the side of the flight path, and the UAV does not change course. Also, thanks to this platform "Albatros" can perform target tracking within sight.

A novelty in the A-4K a parachute landing system with forced ejection of the dome. The parachute is produced not automatically, but only by the operator. But in the case of an emergency stop of the engine, in excess of the minimum and maximum altitude, and in case of power failure of the parachute release automatically. forced landing coordinates are also automatically transferred to the operator's monitor. Thus, the new parachute system not only allows you to save the device from damage during landing, but also greatly simplifies its operation.

Landing on the wheeled chassis is much more complicated. Tests have shown that the UAV control when planting should be engaged in highly skilled and experienced operator. Flight tests began in 2000 year. The first UAV used in different climates with different geographical location.

Another direction of improvement of the basic model relates to a new system of governance, which should be implemented fully autonomous flight on the desired curved or closed route on the basis of high and productive digital computer. In addition, the Bureau were working to reduce the impact of internal and external interference on the stability and performance of steering actuators and control systems.

Thus, in order to check the flight design characteristics, an experienced UAV A-4K "Albatross" was built, the tests of which began on December 12, 2001. They were successful. Additionally, the sample was used to investigate the ways of using small-sized cameras for topographic surveys. The Albatross is still being tested.
