Construction of an air harbor at the site of the current Belgrade International Airport. Nikola Tesla began in 1958 and continued until 1962 year. Despite a number of financial problems, this international air harbor was built in very tight lines and equipped with modern systems, which in the future was supposed to make the airport one of the largest in Europe.

In 70-80-ies of the last century the airport of Belgrade developed actively, which allowed to serve hundreds of thousands of passengers a year, while the air harbor constantly expanded its functionality, and also increased the route network.

 

 

In the 90-ies for the Belgrade International Airport, a crisis situation ensued, which was due to internal conflict on the territory of the country, as well as by the military actions launched by the United States against Yugoslavia. In this regard, flights from the airport either did not occur at all, or were made with a number of imposed restrictions.

After the break-up of Yugoslavia into individual states, the Belgrade International Airport. Nikola Tesla got a new life, which had a favorable effect on his development. In 2002, the number of passengers serviced in the air harbor increased to 1,6 million passengers, in 2007 - to 2,5 million passengers, and in 2017 to 5,34 million passengers.
