Domodedovo Airport is one of the three main airports in the Moscow Aviation Hub. It is located 45 kilometers southeast of the city center. It is the only Moscow airport whose runways are arranged so that aircraft can take off and land simultaneously, as the distance between the runways is approximately two kilometers.

In 2012, the airport celebrated its 50th anniversary, and its first passenger flight took place in 1964 on the Moscow-Sverdlovsk route.

Domodedovo Airport before

Until the end of the last century, Domodedovo Airport specialized in long- and medium-haul domestic flights to Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia, the Volga region, and the Urals. New aircraft models were tested at Domodedovo. For example, in 1966, the first domestic intercontinental jet passenger aircraft, the Il-62, underwent operational development. The year 1977 marked the launch of supersonic passenger air service: regular flights from Moscow to Almaty were operated by the world's first supersonic passenger airliner, the Tu-144. In the early 90s, the Il-96-300, a wide-body aircraft for medium- and long-haul routes, made its first flight from here.

In 1992, Domodedovo Airport acquired international status. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union led to a major crisis in the air transport industry. The airport arrived in the new Russia already considerably worn out, and by 1994, approximately 80% of its facilities required upgrading.

New life

In 1994, Domodedovo Airport launched Russia's first public-private partnership. The private company East Line, led by young businessman Dmitry Kamenshchik, collaborated with the Domodedovo Civil Aviation Production Association (DPO GA) to establish several specialized enterprises at the airport, responsible for various airport operations, including in-flight catering, cargo handling, and other services. As part of this partnership, the airport provided worn-out, end-of-life assets, while East Line assumed responsibility for the complete reconstruction of both the airport infrastructure and its management system.

Inside Domodedovo Airport

In 1997, Domodedovo Airport was transferred to private management. A comprehensive ground handling system for passengers and aircraft was introduced. Passenger traffic now reaches 4,5 million people per year. An international cargo terminal was built. Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the leader in Russia in terms of cargo traffic volume.

In 1998, the airfield's non-privately transferable assets (runways, taxiways, and aircraft parking areas) were transferred to East Line on a 75-year long-term lease. This completed the change of ownership of the airport assets. This marked the beginning of an accelerated reconstruction of the passenger terminal, which lasted approximately two years. Following this, in 2001, Domodedovo Airport was recognized as the best in the CIS (by the Airport Association of Civil Aviation of the CIS).

The results of the reconstruction were not long in coming: passenger traffic in 2001 exceeded the 2000 figure by 40%, and this rapid growth persisted for a decade. Prospects for further development necessitated the launch of a fundamentally new communication channel for Russia with the capital – the "High-Speed Transport System." The first Aeroexpress train began operating from Domodedovo Airport to Paveletsky Station.

In 2003, the British magazine Airline Business recognized Domodedovo Airport's growth as the most dynamic among the world's 150 largest airports. In 2004, Domodedovo's passenger traffic reached 12,07 million passengers per year, and the airport itself is ranked among the top 100 airports in the world. Its high level of quality and innovative technologies, not only for Russia but also for the world, attract prestigious brands such as British Airways and Emirates to Domodedovo Airport.

Breaking into the lead

Since 2005, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has become the leader in passenger traffic within the Moscow aviation hub. The airport's total passenger traffic for the year amounted to 13,96 million people. Average monthly passenger traffic growth exceeded 15%. Following the completion of the reconstruction of the second runway (RWY-2), the airfield was certified to the International Air Transport Association (ICAO) CAT III A standard, allowing takeoffs and landings in adverse weather conditions.

Inside Domodedovo Airport

The second phase of the terminal's reconstruction began in 2005. The project expands the terminal's space by extending the façade forward and adding new sections to the west and east sides of the existing building. By the end of 2006, Domodedovo's passenger traffic exceeded 15 million people per year.

In 2007, the world's largest passenger airliner, the Airbus A380, made its maiden commercial flight, and just two years later, on October 16, 2009, it made its maiden flight to the Russian Federation—to Domodedovo Airport. By this time, the airfield infrastructure had already been prepared for the arrival of this aviation giant: all geometric dimensions and the load-bearing capacity of the runway surfaces complied with Russian Federation regulations and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards and recommended practices applicable to this aircraft type. The airport's runway and taxiway configuration were modernized to accommodate the A380's dimensions and allowed for takeoff, landing, and taxiing under its own power.

Domodedovo Airport from the outside

In 2011, Domodedovo was named the best airport in Eastern Europe by an aviation industry award based on a passenger survey. As of the end of 2012, it was the leading airport in Russia in terms of passenger traffic, handling over 28 million passengers (46% of all air traffic through Moscow airports).

Domodedovo Airport is focusing on developing flights using high-capacity aircraft – the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. Specialized super-heavy-duty tow trucks capable of towing aircraft weighing up to 600 tons are being purchased, as well as catering lifts capable of lifting in-flight meals as high as a three-story building (the upper deck of an A380), special deicers, and many other unique vehicles.

Domodedovo Airport's 50th anniversary

2012 Moscow Domodedovo Airport celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Moscow's Domodedovo Airport became the first Russian airport to begin regularly servicing JAL's newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Emirates' largest passenger airliner, the A380. The airport purchased the most specialized airfield equipment to handle these new aircraft, and its terminal is equipped with a unique two-level jet bridge capable of handling A380 flights.

Moscow's Domodedovo Airport is the only airport in Russia capable of handling the world's largest passenger airliner, the Airbus A380, on a regular commercial basis.

The location of the passenger terminal between two runways allows for optimal placement of ground transportation communications and public infrastructure, while the integrity of the airport complex and the “under one roof” service technology for international and domestic passengers significantly minimizes connection times.

Domodedovo Airport schedule:

Other airports ...

Direct flights from Domodedovo Airport.

Only at your airport, when I flew to the funeral in transit, they were forced to throw out the water with which I washed down the medicine, and on the way back - a small jar of jam, a gift for children, well, what an inhuman attitude, in other cities and airports they treat with understanding and only you ... Not even words, I have so many "wishes" to employees and management. Boomerang to you.

At customs, during the inspection they took away all cosmetics, even contact lenses.

5 June, at about 12.30 at the Domodedovo airport on baggage inspection, my daughter's phone was stolen right in front of the employee's staff. We were shocked and confused, like so. The daughter barely calmed down, we were offered to watch a video record where everything was visible who and when and where they went. Printed photos and employees ran to look for, but their impulse to catch a thief tripped the higher leadership, but how to first write a statement. Wrote and that we were taken to the police station and closed there. NORMAL !!! We spent 2 hours have had time to fly. And of course There is no result. Domodedovo Airport wants feedback from you!

You are the most unscrupulous people! In your aeroflot ticket office in the city of Ulyanovsk, my 80 summer mother bought a ticket to the city of Varna Bulgaria. And she was sold a ticket when the plane landed in Bulgaria two hours before the visa. Without warning. The ticket was sold at your ticket office. You canceled it. They mocked the 80 summer man. enraged, took away the documents! You do not have people. you have a pack. I am suing and writing in the media. We saw that an old man took money and documents, scared, threatened!

I flew from Domodedovo 11 years never complained. Great Airport!

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SERVICE unaccompanied child

Where the airport administration is looking, there is a complete lack of stability and flight control. It seems that everyone, up to the border service, is sitting and waiting for the "victim", and the victim's money in his pocket. Due to the fault of the border service, today my brother could not fly to Kiev while the service was breaking through, although the registration took place in two hours. The ticket was lost, and when they asked, they said we could not help. Who will explain how to be?

flight UN2017 24maya, the complete absence of information in the registration and location of the landing, I see this in the first, recognized by tyka.bezobrazie!
