Airbus received a patent for the use of the bicycle seat principle

Airbus has applied for a patent - seats for passengers, constructed using the principle of a bicycle seat, allowing the passenger to change its position during the flight. Structurally, the proposed design of the seat has a broad view of the saddle, mounted on a special frame. The seat has a structure that allows them to fold, thereby freeing additional space in the cabin.

There is speculation that the filing of a patent application passenger aircraft seats, is a response to an attempt in 2012, the company Ryan Air get permission to fly, where in the cabin cleaned 10 last rows of seats, providing complete freedom of passengers.

Experts from the Airbus felt that the organization of this space will create uncomfortable conditions for passengers during the flight. Therefore, it was offered the option of retractable seats with a small backrest and narrow armrests, thereby achieving an increase in the number of passenger seats in the cabin and an additional opportunity to reduce the cost of air tickets. However, this reduction tolerable comfort for passengers, flight lasting one or more hours, but not acceptable for long flights.
