Tupolev ANT-3 aircraft. A photo. History. Characteristics.

ANT-3 - a two-pillared one-and-a-half rail, the first flight of which took place in 1925 year. The assignment for the design and construction of this aircraft was issued at the very beginning of 1924, and already in April of this year, a project for the engine of Liberty with an output of 400 hp. was ready. The prototype was produced in July 1925 year. In August, V.N. Filippov made factory tests, after which the aircraft was transferred to a scientific and experimental aerodrome for state tests, held until April 1926. VS flew by. Vakhmistrov and M.M. Gromov. They noted a number of shortcomings, but there were no concrete conclusions on the plane.

ANT-3

At the heart of the ANT-3 fuselage type ANT-2 it was used with a triangular cross-section. It observer-gunner was working in a standing position. Moreover, the upper wing was such that virtually lay on the fuselage. Project development and construction of the assignment was given in 1924 year.

Since December 1925 years, passed the construction of the main instance ANT-3 specifically for the series GAZ №5 and several copies intended for flights to Europe. MM Gromov gave the following advice: install on the aircraft engine "Napier Lion", with a capacity of 450 hp on long-haul flights, the Commission adopted the proposal. At the head of the aircraft is amended as follows: change the wings of the box and the N-shaped struts on the K-shaped. As a result, the ANT-3 improved its performance.

MM Gromov with EV Radzevich on ANT-3 «Proletarian" make further flight (from the 30 2 August to September 1926), who was 7150 km. At this hour flight took 34 15 minutes of flying time. A year later, on the same plane Shestakov with D. Fufaeva performed over a long flight in 20 thousand. km. They overcame him by the 153 hours. Flights demonstrated to all, not only the skill of pilots, but also the success of aircraft in the USSR.

ANT-3

The series was released more than a hundred aircraft with different engines. They were a few years in service.

The whole history of ANT-3 demonstrates the problems of formation of all-metal aircraft with a strong backlog of engine at that time (1925-1928 years.).

Aircraft

The success of the light passenger ANT-2 prompted A.N. Tupolev move further along the path of all-metal aircraft construction. The next in a row of machines of this type was ANT-3 (R-3), conceived as a scout. The designer temporarily moved away from the monoplane scheme, making this time a half-plane (the lower bearing surface is smaller than the upper one), but left the fuselage, worked out for ANT-2. R-3 was much heavier, larger in size than the predecessor, and required the installation of a more powerful engine. The latter became the biggest problem, as the domestic motor industry lagged far behind the development of aircraft, and the purchase of engines abroad flew in a pretty penny. Often, designers had to choose on the principle of "take what they give." Such a campaign forced us to remodel the already used aircraft and sometimes not for the better.
ANT-3 also changed several kinds of "engines" to improve the speed and performance of range. By plane, bore the proper name "proletarian", was made a flight to Europe with a stopover in the capitals of various countries. The other side, worked his way east across the entire Soviet Union, reached Tokyo. We can say that ANT-3 opened the era of the creation of heavy machinery for various purposes, capable of flying long distances.

Plane-whatnot. And matchless. I heard, put a lot of world records, in addition to what he did fly. And it's not alone. I think so. It was necessary to continue to allocate some specialists of OKB and keep the robot over the likes of the Far-haul aircraft. But the problem was different. Almost all were built in the Soviet Union, it was built based on who or whether to kill or destroy.
But the plane worthy. I mark it with a friend's seen. Apart from a good artist should assure that a plane fell on Soviet stamps will not draw.

And there was nothing to bury. The Japanese, but realized that the Soviet Air Force could very much. Tupolev fellow has built an excellent aircraft. Ant-3 all showed not only the range and power of response.

Yes, a good machine. I remember as a child, I saw a postcard with ANT-3 on the background of the Japanese Mount Fuji-Yama. It has been written, "Our answer is." My grandfather then told me that the way councils responded to the Japanese and to the world that our combat aircraft can without any problems to reach their distant islands and the points for air strikes. Accordingly, Soviet bombers could combat missions deep in enemy territory. And that means that all the teeth can break.
And I remember reading the book "A. Tupolev - the man and his aircraft. " So there is clearly described by the flight to Europe Intelligence ANT-3. He led the Thunders. Though there were a few problems, but they are easily solved apparatus yet reached the end point. Yet Soviet equipment at the time could adequately respond to other countries.
