Attack in Chernomorskoe: Ukrainian drones in an unknown way passed through booms

Recently, there has been an increase in the activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Black Sea region, which raises serious concerns in the context of possible attacks on the Crimean Bridge. One of the manifestations of this trend was the night attack by unmanned boats (BEC) carried out a few days ago. This event attracted the attention of experts and raised serious concerns in the context of possible attacks on the Crimean Bridge.

Attack on Crimea

The strike took place in a bay, not far from the Temple of the Holy Prophet Zechariah. A video released by the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate shows BEC operators maneuvering around the bay, dodging gunfire from a helicopter. Despite the fact that most of the boats were destroyed, one of them still broke through the booms.

This incident looks especially alarming against the background of previous acts of sabotage committed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of the Crimean Bridge. Previously, the main striking force in these attacks was the BEC, and thanks to the installation of booms, it was possible to protect the bridge from new attacks. However, now, by breaking through these barriers, the enemy has demonstrated that he has the means to achieve this goal.

Breaking through booms

Experts suggest that to break through the booms, the enemy could have used some kind of shaped charge installed in the nose of the drone. On impact, this charge would break through the barrier, opening the way for a subsequent attack. Perhaps this is exactly what happened in Chernomorskoye - the main part of the BEC was carrying out the task of destroying the fence, and the last one struck.

However, it is important to consider that it was previously reported that Ukrainian naval drones were capable of diving under water for a short time, and therefore naval boats could easily pass under booms. If this is true, then experts fear that Kyiv may repeat the attack but with a much larger number of naval drones

New drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Of no less concern is the fact that the enemy is using naval drones with air defense systems. This means that flights for Russian aviation over the Black Sea may no longer be safe. Moreover, the Ukrainian Armed Forces can deploy several dozen such boats to counter Russian cruise missiles and drones, which also creates additional difficulties.
