History

Aviation line was established 30 September 1957, the first flight took place on March 31 1958 flight Vickers Viscount 779 Vienna-Zurich-London. Austrian Airlines was formed with the help of the merger of Austrian Airways and Air Austria companies. The first domestic flights began in May 1 1963. The first transatlantic flight of the aircraft was in April 1 1969 from New York-Brussels-Vienna in cooperation with Sabena.

Austrian joined the Star Alliance in 2000. Austrian in the same year, acquired Lauda Air, which carried out including long-haul flights, and acquired in February Rheintalflug 15 2001. As a result of the re-branding of general aviation companies to become the brand Austrian. 1 2004 October, flight divisions were merged Lauda Air and Austrian, resulting in the Lauda Air brand has been applied only for charter flights.

In June 2008, the Austrian government commissioned the investment bank Merrill Lynch to prepare a complete privatization of the aviation company through the sale of a foreign aviation company. The aviation company Air France-KLM, Lufthansa, Air China, Royal Jordanian, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, S7 Airlines initially announced their interest. The short list includes Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and S7. On December 5, 2008 it became known that the ÖIAG confirmed the sale of 41,6 percent of Austrian Airlines shares to the aviation company Lufthansa at a price of 366268.75 euros.

Corporate design

The color scheme of Austrian Airlines has always been "red-white-red." Planes with 1950-x on 80-e were silver, the upper part of the fuselage was «Austrian Airlines» white with Austrian Airlines arrow and the word (up to 1972, 1995-2003) or «Austrian» (1972-1995, with 2003 years).

The conventional Austrian Airlines arrow ("Austrian Chevron") had three variants. In 1960 it resembled a paper airplane shape, and it got its current shape in 1972. After the 1995 rebranding, Chevron was placed on the red, white and red tails of aircraft. But Chevron, after a new corporate identity change in 2003, experienced a "renaissance": the old arrow began to be used again, but with shadows and in a more modern style.

A variety of special color schemes have been used for decades. After joining the Star Alliance, some aircraft began to wear the alliance emblem. In the year of Mozart, in 2006, the Airbus A320 received a special paint, the Airbus A340 wore the emblem of the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Boeing 737-600 was painted in Tyrolean motifs. Three aircraft were painted for EURO 2008, and one Airbus A320 was painted in retro style for the 50th anniversary of the company.

destination

The main direction of Austrian destinations are the Middle East and Eastern Europe, most of which are served by subsidiary Tyrolean Airways.

Some of the aircraft were sold to TAP Portugal, Swiss and the French Air Force. As a result, Austrian closed a number of long-haul flights to Australia and East Asia. Flights to Shanghai were terminated in January 2007, flights to Colombo, Phuket, Male 'and Mauritius in April 2007, and flights to Kathmandu in May 2007.

In March 2007, the airline's longest flights, Melbourne - Singapore - Vienna - and Sydney - Kuala Lumpur - Vienna, were also terminated, discontinuing operations on Kangaroo flights. Austrian was the last European airline to fly direct from Europe to Melbourne.

A company representative tells you in advance by telephone in the event if the flight is suddenly transferred. For me this was something new as in similar companies, I did not notice this practice. In addition, they were able to almost completely get rid of the queues at airports, and it already means a lot.

Dirt and paper under the seats, which are in such a state as if they chewed hungry passengers! The food by the way, something completely inedible, even in appearance - to take risks and try not to become. In general, more than a foot here! And still claim to be an international company.

I spent a lot of time, but could not get the company representative when I was finally able to fly. Could not such as to coordinate the work? A similar service, I did not see any one company.

Both departure took place with a slight delay, however, would like to note that the most spoiled the mood is not it, but the fact that the airport is impossible to get your luggage. I waited more than an hour.

For the first time flying these airlines. Krasnodar-Vienna-London - 20 February; London-Vienna-Krasnodar - 10 January. Service unobtrusive, but the food leaves much to be desired. Much better fed on domestic flights. When flying to Vienna, waiting between flights took about three hours - the time was left for overloading luggage and delaying the aircraft. Taking into account the fact that we managed to fly out of London for 45 minutes later, we did not manage to overload the baggage in Vienna. But the airline representatives said that the suitcase would be delivered directly to the house (the next day). Although, I was happy and the fact that we managed to change plane from plane to plane, because the prospect of hanging for an indefinite period with a small child and flying another flight did not please us. As promised, the suitcase was delivered to the house. But in my case, after its transportation, I had to throw it away. On the way to the other side: they tore off one of the pens and broke the code lock. And on the back they broke off the sliding handle and tore off the zipper in the back pocket. In this case, such damage that in principle they could not have been under any circumstances. I'm just in shock!
