BAe PHOENIX

The BAe PHOENIX aircraft, which was designed by UK designers, is an operational and tactical UAV for conducting reconnaissance work. It is intended to aid in the exploration of land forces. With the help of this machine, it is possible to detect and recognize enemy targets in real time and in time. It can operate irrespective of the time of day and transmit information for artillery and systems of ground volley fire. The UAV is also capable of assisting when aiming at a target and interfering with the enemy's radio reconnaissance. The machine is capable of carrying out a chemical, bacterial attack, as well as suppressing enemy air defense systems.

It should be noted that almost every artillery regiment of Great Britain has several UAVs. The BAe PHOENIX unmanned vehicle is transported by several vehicles, one of which is a control point. The control panel has excellent protection against electromagnetic effects of the enemy and against weapons of mass destruction. The remote control receives all the information from the unmanned vehicle, where it is analyzed. The communications system is linked to the artillery fire guidance system.

Management UAV carries three people: the flight operator, the operator is responsible for the assignment, and cryptanalysts. In the control room located a display that displays an image with the camera in a different scale. Most systems are fully automated, which makes it easier to search for objects and purposes.

The modern army of the Great Britain continues to use in their calculations unmanned PHOENIX. This machine is designed for 12 years and got into the army only 1998 year. Before the advent of "Phoenix" used the reconnaissance drone CL-89 "Midge."

The main advantages of the new machine can be called low visibility both visually and for enemy radar. When flying, the device emits a minimal sound and is invisible in infrared radiation. The aircraft is made in a standard two-beam scheme. The power plant is represented by two petrol engines with an output of 25 horsepower each. Due to the use of a large percentage of composite materials and a modular design, it is possible to quickly replace the units and aggregates of the machine. On average, the life cycle of "Phoenix" is 15 years. The general preparation of the entire BAe PHOENIX system for launch takes about an hour. This is when unpacking and collecting the device from shipping containers. On the drone is a container for payload, in which you can load 45 kilogram.

Composition BAe PHOENIX

  • Thermal imaging camera.
  • IR receiver type SPRITE, it has a range of 8-14 microns.
  • Telephoto lens with exchangeable focus, allowing to increase the objects in 10 times.
  • 16-bit processor.
  • Two antennas for data transmission, which can be switched automatically. They allow you to transmit sensitive information.

The camera and lens is fixed to the rotary turret type, it allows the scanning area of the land to all 260 degrees. Scanning and analysis of the territory may be carried out manually and in automatic by specified angles of inclination.

The process of the flight can be carried out without the participation of the people, but it is necessary to make the flight program. Planting apparatus carried on the assignment using the parachute system. Moreover, planting is carried out in an inverted state. It is made specifically to the main blow fell on the landing of the polyurethane hump, which is set in the upper part of the body.

BAe PHOENIX UAV used by armed forces of the Netherlands. The first combat use was carried out in Kosovo.
