In 1965, Beech began building an aircraft that was designed for use on local airlines. An analogue of the future serial aircraft liner took off in July 1966 of the year. The new aircraft, designated Beech Model99 Airliner, had basically Queen Air configuration, but a longer fuselage put up to fifteen passengers and two crew members. Two Pratt & Whitney PT6A20 HDDs were installed on the aircraft, having 550l.c power. Optionally, a cargo door and a movable bulkhead were provided, providing a different cargo-passenger layout. The first production aircraft was supplied by 02.05.1968, - at that time, the Model 99 Executive (alternative) was ready, in general, the 5 is one of the standard Model99 Airliner, but with different "corporate" interiors and seating arrangements.

Then came ModelA99 and ModelВ99, as well as Executive options. On these planes, PT6A27 motors were installed, having HP 680 power. By 1976, the demand for the Model99 had fallen, and by 1977, the aircraft had been discontinued, producing a total for 64's operators (mostly American) .164 machines

In 1979, Beech announced its intention to return the aircraft to the regional airline market. To make the certification process faster, the serial ModelB99 was reequipped completely, with a modern powerplant of two PT6A-36 mounted on it. The aircraft, which was designated the Model С99, flew 20.06.1980, its production began in September 1980.

The car was certified in July 1981, the first deliveries started two or three days later. С99 aircraft differs from Model В99 by more powerful engines. The manufacture of the 99 ended in 1986, after the production of the 76 aircraft.

In addition, Beech modified one Model99 in PD280 to conduct experiments on 1975 for stability.
