The main initiator of this project was the military command of the US Navy, which needed high-quality drones capable of not only reconnoitering the terrain, but also carrying out the destruction of water, land and air targets. The unmanned aerial vehicle was projected on the basis of previously existing projects, which allowed to reduce the cost of the drone to some extent, however, the final release date of this UAV at the moment remains unknown.

His first test of an unmanned aerial vehicle model Boeing X-46 2013 has undergone in the year, however, this information is not officially advertised as drone is still required a number of technical improvements. Estimated date of completion of the formal development of this UAV is scheduled for the year 2020, while the supply of drone Boeing X-46 in the US armed forces allegedly must start in 2022-2023 years.

Due to the fact that the unmanned aerial vehicle project is a secret development, most of the characteristics of this drone is unknown, however, it is clear that the power plant of the UAV will be presented by the turbojet engine, capable to disperse the drone up to speed in 950 km \ h., While combat radius of action of this UAV should be about 500 km.

Given the peculiarity of the use of drone Boeing X-46, armed with this unmanned likely will be two high-precision missiles to fight against ground targets, two missiles to combat air targets, as well as four high-precision bombs.
