Eco-friendly flights. Recent developments of engineers and scientists.

The creation of environmentally friendly air travel is one of those daunting tasks at the moment, which many scientists and engineers from various countries are trying to solve. Every day, around the world, thousands of flights are made, and this is about several tons of harmful emissions, which naturally affect the ecology of our planet.

Not so long ago, the major aircraft manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier decided to minimize the harm caused by environmental harm, which is why, last airliners emit into the environment on 10-15% less exhaust gas and chemicals than before, that even at this point is a good Progress, however, despite this, the number of emissions are not reduced, but continues to grow.

Russian scientists also decided to make their own contribution to the development of environmentally friendly air transportation, who suggested modifying aircraft engines so that, as a result of their operation, the combustion of hydrocarbon fuel would be complete, which in turn minimizes emissions of such harmful substances as carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. which are the main threat to the environment. At the moment, the development is only at the initial stage, however, there are already the first results of the tests carried out - at the first launch of the modified aircraft engine, with smooth fuel supply, the amount of harmful emissions decreased by 15-18%, but experts already declare that further work in this regard, it will improve the results up to 25% of the positive effect.

The optimum value of the excess oxygen to minimize emissions

The main feature of the new development is the creation of such a fuel supply in which it would be completely burned together with oxygen, which, in turn, leads to the fact that the degree of harmful substances emitted into the atmosphere is reduced due to the absence of carbon and nitrogen compounds with oxygen. However, it is important to take into account the fact that an aircraft still requires an excess amount of air to fly, and experts suggest that the current value of 10% can be reduced to 1-2%, which will lead to a decrease in emissions of 5 -10 times, which of course will somewhat affect the maximum speed of the aircraft, however, experts suggest that this figure will decrease by no more than 7-9%.

Among other things, experts also take into account the fact that it is far from always possible to avoid the complete elimination of the emission of harmful substances, and in this case, there is another very interesting know-how, which is nothing more than a metal filter installed in the rear parts of the aircraft engine. At its core, the platinum grille is not a filter as such, however, since this metal belongs to the heavy group, it can trap harmful substances coming out of the engine. Naturally, in this case, the cost of the power plant will be more expensive, however, taking into account the fact that for the production of such a filter grid, about 400 grams of this noble metal are needed, the cost of power plants will increase by about 10-12 thousand dollars (taking into account the current price), which at the cost of the most modern aircraft engine is only about 0,001%.

Be that as it may, the development continues to be carried out, and it is likely in the near future flights on airplanes can become more environmentally friendly.
