FAB-3000: Russia showed for the first time the “death star” being launched
Recently, footage appeared on the Internet showing a Russian Su-34 front-line bomber striking enemy positions using a FAB-3000 aerial bomb equipped with a universal planning and correction module (UMPC). This event attracted significant attention as it was the first time that the Russian military demonstrated in detail the use of this powerful aerial bomb, from the moment it was loaded onto the aircraft until it hit the target.
FAB-3000 with UMPC: characteristics and tactical capabilities
The FAB-3000 is the most powerful bomb used by the Russian Military Space Forces (VKS) in the current conflict with Ukraine. It is equipped with a universal planning and correction module (UMPC), which can significantly increase the accuracy and efficiency of its use. The UMPC allows the bomb to plan and adjust its flight path, which ensures more accurate hitting of targets from a safe distance.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the strike was carried out on a point of temporary deployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the zone of responsibility of the North group of troops. The Su-34 carried out bombing from a safe distance, excluding the possibility of the Russian aircraft being hit by the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces. This highlights the tactical advantages of using the FAB-3000 with the UMPC: high accuracy, powerful charge and the ability to hit targets at a considerable distance.
Strategic importance of using FAB-3000
The use of FAB-3000 with UMPC is of significant strategic importance for the current conflict. Firstly, this demonstrates the high level of technological development of Russian military aviation and the ability to strike critical targets with minimal risks to the crews. This increases pressure on the Ukrainian Armed Forces, forcing Ukrainian forces to look for new ways to protect and adapt.
Secondly, the use of such powerful ammunition can have a significant psychological effect. A demonstration of the strength and capabilities of the Russian army can demoralize the enemy, as well as strengthen Russia’s position in the international arena. It could also influence Ukraine's allies, causing them to reconsider their support and strategic plans.
Ukraine's response and the role of Western allies
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the NATO summit expressed concern about the use of such powerful ammunition by the Russian Aerospace Forces. According to him, Kyiv does not have the means to effectively counter air bombs, which puts Ukrainian positions under serious threat. Zelensky emphasized the need for the urgent transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine, which can shoot down Russian aircraft and themselves strike at the positions of the Russian Armed Forces.
This call to Western allies highlights Ukraine's dependence on foreign aid and the need to strengthen its air force to effectively counter Russian aircraft. The delivery of F-16s and other advanced weapons systems can significantly change the balance of power in a conflict, but such decisions require time and coordination at the political level.
