Modest aircraft "Argus» (Argus - Argus) of Fairchild Aircraft Corporation could trace their ancestry back to civilian aircraft model tourist Triple 24S 1933 years. The company 1937 year introduced a four-seater model modification 240, which can be installed: radial engine company "Warner» (Warner) or inline engine of "Ranger» (Ranger).

In connection with the overall increase in the US armed forces at the end of the 1930, the 24 was one of the many civilian aircraft types that suddenly found their place in the fast-growing US Air Force. Nevertheless, from 163 aircraft UC-61 "Forwarder" (such a designation was given to the paramilitary aircraft of Fairchild) all but two were transferred to Britain by lend-lease. The aircraft were named "Argus" I. Their first specimens began to arrive in the UK in 1941 and were used by the Royal Air Force and the Auxiliary Military Transport Force as "air taxi" for the transportation of the pilots. Soon they were followed by 364 Mk II. These aircraft had new radio equipment and were equipped with an 24-volt electrical system - the US Air Force also purchased 148 copies of this modification, which was given the designation UC-61A.

The last modification was to build a plane "Argus» III (UC-61K), equipped with the engine, "Ranger." About 306 these aircraft were handed over to the UK. Besides the use of aircraft the US Air Force, Royal Air Force and auxiliary forces of the military-transport aircraft several "Fairchild» 24 was also used in the US Navy, which gave them the designation J2K. A significant number of civilians and former military aircraft survived to 1990-ies. Currently in the UK there is a register of six planes flying "Argus» III.
