Fairchild Metro plane. A photo. Description.

Fairchild Aerospace Logistics Metro (Fairchild SwearingenMetroliner) - American turboprop airliner for regional airlines. Developed and mass-produced by Swearingen Aircraft, and subsequently by Fairchild in the period 1968-2001.

Design

The Metroliner model was developed on the basis of the previous model - the Swearingen Merlin turboprop administrative aircraft and, in fact, was its strong rework. This aircraft was built for a passenger capacity of nineteen passengers, since, according to the requirements of the FAA Aviation Administration, the increased number of passengers forced the airline companies to include a flight attendant in the crew. The analogue aircraft made its first flight in 1969. Swearingen Aircraft, which had financial difficulties in 1971, was bought by Fairchild and renamed Swearingen Aviation Corporation. Serial production of the aircraft started in 1971 and lasted until 2001. The aircraft was produced in a large number of cargo and passenger modifications.
