GUUP students are trained in buildings that are architectural monuments. The Chesme Palace, the first building of the university and the Chesme Church standing next to it, were laid at the request of Empress Catherine II in honor of the victory in the Chesme Battle of the Russian Army in 1770. And in the main building of the university - the building located on Bolshaya Morskoy - from the middle of the nineteenth century and up to 1918, the barracks of the Horse Regiment of the Life Guards were located.

Scientific work

The SUAI is one of the Russian scientific and educational centers, in which the student’s learning process is inextricably linked with applied and fundamental research. Graduate students and students along with teachers participate actively in the scientific work of the university. Every year, a student scientific conference and an exhibition of students' technical and scientific creativity are held at a higher educational institution. For over sixty years, it has been operating at the university SNO (student scientific society). The GUAP scientific student conference has international status: in 2011, more than seven hundred students from Russia and other countries participated in it. The training of personnel of the highest scientific qualification is done through graduate school, doctoral studies and applicants.

The duration of full-time postgraduate studies is three years, and part-time studies are four years. The scientific leadership of graduate students is produced by professors, doctors of science. The dissertation councils are actively engaged in their activities, theses are regularly defended. In addition, approximately twenty-five percent of the total number of teachers younger than 30-35 years — all this indicates that both teaching and research have a future. For the university, the protection of doctoral theses by graduate students younger than 35 years has already become common.
