A type: Single-engine jet carrier-based fighter-bomber

Crew: One pilot

The first jet fighter, designed by Sir Sydney Kamm, the Sea Hawk aircraft had the usual appearance, but an unusual arrangement of the power plant, in which the output device was divided into two nozzles along the sides of the fuselage at the trailing edge of the wing. Having adopted such a scheme, Kamm not only created one of the best-looking jet fighters of that period, but also freed up a place for placing a large fuselage fuel tank. Although in the beginning the aircraft under the designation R.1040 was designed for the Royal Air Force, with the advent of the Si Hawk air force, the Air Force decided to wait for the Hunter.

And the first serial modification of the F 1 aircraft, featuring folding oversized wing consoles and other naval equipment, was transferred to the Air Force of the fleet in March of 1953. Orders for this aircraft were 151, most of them were built by the company "Amstrong Whitworth." After the delivery of the 95 aircraft F 1, production initially switched to the modification of F 2 (40 aircraft), and then to the modification F 3 (116 aircraft), equipped with bomb holders. Then came new modifications - 90 aircraft FGA 4 and 86 aircraft FGA 6, also delivered to the Air Force fleet. Many early aircraft modification FB 3 were converted into a modification of the FB 5, while the aircraft modification FGA 4 was converted into a modification of FGA 6.

As part of the Air Force fleet, the aircraft "Sea Hawk" took part in the fighting during the Suez crisis, in 1956 year. 22 aircraft delivered to the Royal Netherlands Navy, 68 aircraft - the newly converted 74 German Navy and aircraft for the Indian Navy. Indian aircraft "Sea Hawk" were the last decommissioned in 1977 year.
