Military development on the basis of a civil aircraft of general purpose STOL family of "Helio» (Helio) - Plane "Stellion» (Stallion - Stallion), developed "Keymenom» (Kaman), has been specially built to fight the rebels in the South East Asia. To achieve its stunning landing characteristics of the aircraft was equipped with automatic slats across the wing span, improved system management and cross-slotted flaps.

Unlike the H-250 and H-259 Courier (U-10 Super Courier modification, which were widely used by the US Air Force and Allied Air Forces in Vietnam) of the Helio company, the Stellion aircraft relied on a turboprop engine to compensate for the increased total weight. He had a five-under-wing suspension points and carried to 862 kg of various weapons (Nury, bombs, and signal flares and other "sweetie"), plus a machine gun mounted in the cockpit or 20-mm cannon M197. In 1972 funds, the US Air Force under the designation AU-24A 15 ordered aircraft, the company received the "Helio" designation H-550A. These aircraft were sent to Vietnam and evaluated in the framework of the project «Credible Chase» («Reliable hunting").

Fourteen unarmed aircraft "Stellion" were then transferred 1973 year Khmer (Cambodian) Air Force. In the US, only one survived the plane AU-24A, which has been restored to a state of airworthiness of the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica at the end of 1980-ies and then auctioned in October 1991 440 years for thousands of dollars.
