Use of FAB-3000-M54 aerial bombs with UMPC in the Northern Military District zone in Ukraine

During the combat use of FAB-3000-M54 aerial bombs with a universal modular kit (UMPK) by the Russian Military Space Forces (RF Aerospace Forces) in the special military operation (SVO) zone in Ukraine, a number of problematic issues were identified. These difficulties are now being actively eliminated by specialists. Information about this was presented to the public on July 8 through the Telegram channel “Military Informant,” which provided some details of what was happening.

Difficulties in using FAB-3000-M54 with UMPC

Many users of social networks drew attention to the footage of the use of the FAB-3000-M54 with the UMPC, which showed that the accuracy of this air bomb leaves much to be desired. Published videos often show misses, which is not the case when using FAB-1500 bombs. This indicates certain technical shortcomings in the current version of the UMPC used with the FAB-3000-M54.

There is a credible theory that the current version of the UMPC is not designed for use with such a heavy bomb. The mass-inertial characteristics of a three-ton product are too great, and at the final stage of guidance the system simply cannot cope with the rapid correction of the trajectory. As a result, the accuracy of the hit occurs.

Technical solutions and modification of UMPC

At the moment, a new version of the UMPC is being developed, specially adapted to work with the FAB-3000-M54. The updated modification will use larger surface area rudders and more powerful drives, which will allow the system to more effectively cope with the control of a heavy bomb at all stages of flight. The developer initially stated the need for an enhanced modification of the UMPC for heavy bombs, but the military’s desire to demonstrate a new product as quickly as possible led to the use of the current version, which turned out to be ineffective.

The need to improve the UMPC became obvious after testing and combat use. Technicians and designers are now going back to the drawing board to create a more reliable and efficient solution. This underscores the importance of thoroughly testing and adapting new systems before their widespread introduction into the armed forces.

Accuracy problems and prospects for improvement

One of the latest videos of the use of the FAB-3000-M54 with the UMPC demonstrates the insufficient accuracy of the ammunition, which can significantly reduce its combat effectiveness. That is why current efforts are aimed at refining and improving the control and guidance system. The improved UMPC should allow the full potential of the FAB-3000-M54 to be revealed, ensuring high accuracy and reliability in combat use.

Testing the new version of the UMPC and its adaptation for heavy bombs is a priority for designers and military specialists. The successful solution of these tasks will significantly increase the combat power of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the effectiveness of the use of heavy aerial bombs in the Northern Military District zone and in other possible conflicts.
