An American Brittney Griner, who was exchanged from a Russian prison for Russian businessman Viktor Bout, signed a contract with the basketball club from the Phoenix Mercury women's NBA, The New York Times reports on February 18.

The source of the publication said that Greiner signed a contract with the club for one year.

Recall that Brittney Greiner has been playing for Phoenix since 2013. Since 2015, the basketball player during the off-season in the NBA played for the Russian club UMMC Yekaterinburg.

In February 2022, Greiner was detained after flying to Moscow. Drugs were found in her personal belongings. The basketball player was sentenced to nine years in prison.

As a result, Greiner was exchanged for the Russian businessman Viktor Bout, who was in an American prison on charges of arms trafficking.
