On the anniversary of the All-Russian Imperial Aero Club

16 (29) in January 1908 in the premises of the Russian Automobile Society, established in 1903, at the capital of the Russian Empire, the city of St. Petersburg, in order to promote the development of aeronautics in Russia "in all forms and applications"I was established by the Russian Aero Club. This is what Russian newspapers wrote of that time:

«16 of January, at the invitation of aero club organizer, held a meeting of its founders 18. After a lengthy exchange of views, it decided to form a committee to work out the charter of the club. The commission includes: Chairman VV Korn, Deputy Chairman - General-Majors Eyholts and Kovanko, secretary Ososov members Koopenburg, Kiparsky, Rynin, Nagel, Yanshin, Count Stenbock-Fermor (. Gosud member of the Duma), BA Suvorin regiment. Semkovsky signature. Odintsov, staff-cap. Shabo, Garut, Feldberg, Cap. Herman and Kostovich. "

12 May 1909, at the Aero Club was named - Imperial, And was called, as we all know it now at the appropriate acronym of the first letters of the words: Imperial Russian Aero Club (abbreviated I.V.A.K.). Officially I.V.A.K. 1917 closes at the end of the year.

Again, the first

In 1925, a new history of the flying club begins. Of course, the new flying club cannot be called the full-fledged successor of the Imperial Aero Club, but its history still begins with I.V.A.K. In Leningrad, at Company fleet of friends (ODVF) created Aero Club Museum (Lakme) with scientific and technical committee, in which was attended by prominent scientists.

And in the year 1929, created the first flying club in the USSR, officially named Leningrad flying school Osoaviahima. During the first five-year plans this flying club became the largest in the USSR, which trained hundreds of pilots annually. In these years, the flying club had more than a hundred aircraft (UT-1, UT-2, I-5, U-2, R-5). Here the future outstanding aircraft designer OK Antonov, the talented aircraft designers PV Tsybin, IK Kostenko, Heroes of the Soviet Union, Honored Test Pilots of the USSR ML Gallai, GA Sedov, acquired the flight specialty. F. V. Fomenkov. The Leningrad aeroclub was completed: O. Yamshchikova, who commanded the aircraft fighter line in the war; Commander of the fighter squadron R. Belyaev: the first woman pilot of the Leningrad aeroclub V. Struchko; Famous glider-pilots E. Koroteeva, L. Chistyakova. The pilot-instructor of the Leningrad flying club worked VP Chkalov, and the first female link in the USSR, consisting of instructor pilots E. Rachko, N. Korytova, P. Yakovleva, M. Gornostaeva, prepared the country for more than one hundred male pilots.

After the war

In the post-war years, the fate of the country's oldest flying club was rather uneven. In 1946, the government of the USSR decided to oblige the Central Council of Osoaviakhim to organize a network of flying clubs in the country based on the pre-war principle "with the dispatch of a large number of air force personnel officers to senior posts." Since March 1947 in the premises of the City Council of Osoaviakhim on the Griboyedov Canal in Leningrad began the recruitment of an air club with the wide involvement of demobilized officers. In May 1947, the first flights began on two old 2 vehicles, received from the parachute-glider club when the latter was disbanded. The Leningrad aeroclub was headed by the Hero of the Soviet Union Didenko. In May-July of the 1947 year, parts of the Leningrad Military District aero club were transferred 25 aircraft Po-2. Intensive flights with young people began. On UT-2 airplanes, a retraining team of the reserve pilots was organized.

In 1947-1949 years Leningrad flying club flourished. It has trained more than 350 pilots. Many graduates have gone on to study in military pilot training. State Flying Club has grown to 170 people. Daily scrambled to 30 aircraft. In the spring of the year 1948 flying club received from the factory N ° 272 first four aircraft Yak-18. Having mastered a new car, flying club pilots began to solve problems distillation Yak-18 aircraft flying clubs in other countries.

At the end of the year 1949 the decision of the government of the USSR all flying clubs in the border areas of the country for training of cadets flying airplanes were closed.

Leningrad flying club was transformed into aerotechnical. Aircraft of the club in January 1950 years were driven to the city of Kalinin (Tver). Before 1955, inclusive Leningrad flying club aircraft mechanic preparing, electricians, radio operators, vooruzhentsev, instrument operators. On January 1 1956, the flying club has acquired the status aviasportkluba with the task of training glider pilots, parachutists athletes.

Leningrad flying club 80-ies, or the story of a boy

All this I did not know at the beginning of the 80-ies. The Leningrad city aeroclub, of course, worked, but it was there ... somewhere far away. But, one day (oh, this is the notorious "one day"), I met my former classmate, who, incidentally, mentioned that he was beginning to study at the Aeroclub in the autumn! How so? I know so much about aviation, I collect clippings of photos and pictures of all planes of the world in separate albums, I, whose father the aviator and his stories I heard from childhood, and do not know anything about the Aeroclub! I found out from him all I could and the next day I went to the flying club. Here it is the cherished street of Tolmachev's house 4, an inconspicuous plaque: Leningrad City aviasportkluba DOSAAF.

Information:

Str. Tolmachev house 4, nab. Fontanka river. House IA Musin-Pushkin (Panin) built in the year 1832. Tunable in 1841 year. Architect: Albert Cavos Katarinovich and Andrei Stackenschneider.

Despite the fact that the main entrance to the mansion was on the embankment, even the entrance from Tolmachev Street and the stairs were amazing. I was 16 then. The "Young Pilot" school was opened at the DOSAAF Aeroclub. This school was similar to preparatory courses, before already serious training, either in an airplane or in a parachute unit. So I was enrolled as a cadet of the "Young Pilot" school, which I was very proud of. Classes were three times a week, it seems from 5 pm or 6 pm. Everything was very serious, until the summer we studied, then we had to go to the Gorskaya airfield, near Sestroretsk, near the Lisiy Nos station.

So we are two girls and a man 7 guys diligently wrote notes, preparing for tests. I do not remember exactly how much was disciplines was more important to the other, all of our teachers were veterans of World War II, pilots, navigators or aircraft. Often, when we are tired from the abundance of new technical terms, plans and designs, we deliberately transferred to the war theme. And then we could spend hours listening to the memories of these wonderful people.

I do remember that we had the discipline:

  • Aerodynamics

  • piloting

  • The design of the airplane Yak-52

  • Design of the engine M-14P

  • Aircraft and avionics (A and RER) Yak-52. By the way, much later I taught this discipline itself, and in the same class, have other girls and boys.

  • Aeronautical meteorology

I must say that dictate how the school, no one was going to us. We recorded as time to cutting, sketching the huge scheme, graphics and drawings. Sometimes breaks appending notebooks with more nimble students. Sometimes it happened that I fell asleep under the dictation of the monotonous one of our teachers. Then my post turned into a cardiogram, and not very good. First, the word passed just to the teeth and valleys were becoming smaller in amplitude, and then completely shifted downward in a flat straight line.

I remember classes in which we were engaged. There have been two: the design of the Yak-52 and 14 motor M and the second - A and RER. These classes have been equipped so that we are there with a broom was difficult to drive. So they were shut down when there were our teachers. We were allowed to get only under supervision. Or otherwise dismantling the aircraft engine would not have partial and full!

In the first class was the stand to the engine and its parts: magneto valves, candles and anything else was there. Part of the finned cylinder was cut, as usual in the tutorial, and you could see the pistons with rings. But, more importantly, in this class was the fuselage of the Yak-52 without planes. As he was dragged to the third floor - it remains a mystery to me. And, of course, we are all drawn to the fuselage like a magnet. And, most importantly, it is the smell. In this class, always smelled of oil, gasoline, and yet something elusive air.

Class A and RER was equipped with a dashboard (it seems with the Yak-50, not sure though). The shelves along the walls were altimeters, artificial horizon, and so on, which caused us terrible arguments that the name for which a particular device is needed. Disputes were not yet come stern Pavel Petrovich Dontsov. Unfortunately, this is only the name of the teacher, I remember now, after years 37. Similarly, I can not say what it was flying, it seems, he was a fighter pilot, but not sure. For us, they were all equally respected, and we do not share their particular degree of reverence for any pilot or the co-driver or the aircraft. They were there! They were people from the film "Chronicle of a dive bomber" or the heroes of the movie "go to fight some old people"!

Sometimes the silence of the old mansion was interrupted by the loud slamming of the front door, the clatter of many feet and loud conversations, heard even in the corridors of the third floor and in classrooms. It is clear - these are the pilots of the aircraft link, or paratroopers who came from the airfield. Healthy, ruddy, cheerful, in flight jackets, they passed us to the pilot training class or to the parachute unit. A noisy gang passed us, huddling against the walls of the corridors, with notebooks in their hands. They smelled of aviation, the sky, frost, planes, they passed by and hid behind doors with very strict inscriptions: "Pilot training class" or "Parachute unit". Yes, there were girls among them, just as funny and aviation. We eagerly caught every word of those passing by us, and then it is important, competently, fluffing our tails in front of each other, discussing what we heard. "Takeoff", "landing course", "twisted over the point" ... all these scraps of phrases made us think out, replay situations, and each put forward his own version.

These people also have been to us by the gods. And if our teachers were the gods of legend, these guys are close to us, the gods were now, in our time, to have been a step or two, and we believe that the first step has been taken! And the older they were perhaps five years in all ...

It was difficult to study, and not only because we finished at eleven o'clock in the evening, and there was a long road to the sleeping areas of the city from the center. But rather, because there was almost no information. Only what was in the classrooms, and what we managed to write down and sketch in class. We, with my friend Dima Lobko, traveled all, probably, libraries and shops of the city in search of the necessary literature. We approached the issue seriously and thoroughly. But, only that we found, completely disappointed us. These were serious "adult" books for institutions of higher education or for colleges and universities, and they did not suit us because of their seriousness and "subtlety." On sports planes, there was practically nothing. Books on aerodynamics or meteorology were designed for the Higher School, and it was difficult for us to understand them.

Spring is coming to an end, were ahead of the exams (more tests) in all subjects, long-awaited trip to the airport. I guess I was so excited and scared exams, that this part of my studies at the flying club, completely erased from the memory. I only remember that I was only one "four" (it was aerodynamics, well, she was not given to me, as it should), the rest I passed on "five".

Lisy Nos, airfield "Highland"

Attire for departure on the collective farm fields for harvesting carrots, bags with sandwiches and a thermos of tea, only girls in elegant "city" clothes (!) is our group, led by an instructor pilot assembled at the Finland Station to travel to Fox Nose. Of course, the girl in the train we were obsmeyat for neat clothes, and everyone tried to screw his joke, and only then, we came to the poor that a change of clothes for the work they had with them.

All of us were more than once at Pulkovo, but there was a completely different aircraft. Who remembers that time, knows the Aeroflot park. The basis is Tu-154 and Tu-134. Sometimes it was possible to see the "trucks" An-12, sometimes stood on the platform handsome IL-86. But for us it was already “whistles” and “eggplants”; we considered ourselves to be a piston aircraft (or true, real, as we thought then!)

Airfield "Highland" was a military airfield from the movie about the war for us. As we walked down the avenue from the station to the airport, over the forest has started to take off with the roar of planes. At the airport, we almost ran. And then ... and then we washed all day aircraft belly, dragged batteries, cylinders with compressed air, sometimes rolled or wheeled aircraft on the parking lot or the parking lot. In general, we have been part of this wonderful community, we were aviators. We could be at the next time gazovki could climb into the cockpit of An-2, we were inside the aircraft!

I must say that there was enough equipment in the Leningrad Aero Club in those years. Yak-50 line, Yak-52 line, several An-2, a pair of Z-37 Vilga. The gliders Yantar and Blanik were lying separately on the grass. The flights were very intense. At the sound of the roar of a low-flying Yak, our girls frowned, but we pretended that this sound was normal for us. Although these sounds, the sounds of a propeller-driven piston aircraft, inside each of us trembled with joy! It was a real airfield life, it was boiling and seething. Yaks landed and took off, circled over our heads in complex pilotage. Then the glider flew, taking off after the "mother" - Vilga, and in the late afternoon one or two An-2 climbed and parachutists trained. At the airfield there were lopings (who does not know this is such a swing, circular, on which the "sun" is twisted), there was a training tower for practicing landing with a parachute. There was an An-2 fuselage, on which the correct separation from the aircraft was practiced. There were summer houses for the aeroclub staff, pilots, technicians, doctors, a garage with petrol stations and a Shishiga (airborne GAZ-66) on which parachutes were carried from the aeroclub and the guys from the parachute unit drove. And of course, in the middle there was a control tower with a balcony and a mast on which a striped "sausage" hung. Everything was as it should be at the field airfield (but for us everything was like in a movie)

We, the students of the school "young pilot" leaving the most recent. Helped technicians refuel planes wiped the soot from the pipes, to shroud all sides. Our girls are clean and elegant, and we, grimy and smelling all the scents of the field aerodrome back on the train home. Talking had neither the strength nor the desire. It's then, and now the emotions and impressions Crazy! We were attached to the most sacred in our lives - to the aviation, we have become aviators!

16 years later, I'll be back in a flying club, in this time Aerotechnics A and RER, and a teacher, but that's another story.

When I was preparing this material, quite by chance, on the web, I found photos of the aerodrome of those years. And although the author Vladimir PonomarevApparently, he was an athlete-parachutist, his photographs give a good representation of the life of the aerodrome Leningrad City flying club DOSAAF... I thank him for this special one, and I ask him, excuse me, for using photographs without his permission, even though they are freely available on the Web.

Under some photos, I did a little explanation.

Photos from the archives of Vladimir Ponomarenko. Leningrad flying club 1980-1982gg. Unfortunately, I did not know of anyone who got in Vladimir camera lens, and because I leave a photo without comment.

Especially for Valery Smirnov Avia.Pro

I have a lot of photos of works and flights in Gorskaya in 1974-79 year, if it is interesting then my address [email protected] I worked as a technician and flew an athlete with 1973 for 1979 year.

Unfortunately, the history of one of the best organizations, which gave way to heaven and at the same time the opportunity to gain professional practical skills from childhood, has not been written and is in the personal archives of many of its participants, and unfortunately it leaves with those who wrote it with their own labor, just participation in him, having received not only knowledge, but also an attitude towards life. While it is not too late, I would like to create an Aeroclub page on the Internet from personal memories of biographies of photos and other materials and a page who "left" and "leaves" ... But how? There are thoughts ...

In these years I also studied at the Leningrad flying club. 1972 -1973. I traveled from the city of Sosnovy Bor 3 hours there 3 back. I also went through the school of Young pilots. I wanted to take the mk far away. I took it and appointed the Young Pilot as the school commander. I kept track of Mel's attendance so that there were various organizational issues. I was not in the subject because the road was exhausting. Dontsov I remember. and he was sitting there. I remembered from the Young pilots - it was necessary to wash the windows and they were very high. The staircase is high. I washed some of the back and there the traces of the cross ribbons still lagged behind. I was very surprised. The next year, together with Natalia Karpova, we got to the flight department of 60 people. The medical commission frayed nerves. The Cathedral of St. Paul seems blue opposite the Gostiny Dvor and TVM the medical commission was. They also made the commander and, too, but there were only 30 people. Attendance, etc.watched and noted in the magazine. We went to wash the plane on ap Gorskaya in winter. It's dreary and far away. The bus is old. The bosses are sitting in front and at the end we are. The most exciting thing is that not everyone will fly. In the teaching board with a curtain, there were real applicants for flights. They spied and ran. Kuchma was the head of the flying club then. Averbakh. Kurikov is my instructor
