"Weather kitchen" or the further fate of the Arctic

"The kitchen of the weather" - The so-called Arctic scientists around the world. And not without reason, because the weather here is formed of the whole planet, here originate cyclones, storms and hurricanes. The Arctic is of considerable interest to scientists all over the world. In the deep layers of ice thickness, the researchers install certain climatic changes antiquity. The samples are ancient relic ice microorganisms and germs.

But in recent years, the territories adjacent to the Arctic and the coastal Arctic shelves are causing increasing interest and disputes. And once politics intervened, dirty backroom games began.

The statements of some American, and not only politicians are very unequivocal. Like, why does Russia need so much undeveloped land and resources, bearing in mind the coastal arctic plume. Some American "hawks" have agreed to the point that Arctic Siberia should be divided. And even to make the Northern Sea Route international, although it passes in Russian territorial waters. And Russia has to prove and defend its territory.

"If the Arctic Siberia belong to one country, or of a higher justice can not speak" - NATO's readiness to fight for the Arctic becomes apparent sharpness. "

"The United States has broad and fundamental national security interests in the Arctic region, and they are ready to defend these interests, both independently and in cooperation with other states. Among these interests there are issues such as missile defense and early warning; deployment of sea and air systems in strategic sealift; strategic deterrence; naval presence; maritime security operations; ensuring freedom of navigation and aviation. "

A bit of history

In Yakutia and in the Komi Republic, in the valleys of the Usa and Yana rivers, the sites of primitive people were found, located here about 30 years ago.

But further study of Arctic areas is inextricably linked with Russia and later the Soviet Union.

We look back.

11 century. Russian sailors, explorers first come to the seas of the Arctic Ocean.

12-13 century. Russian opened the island of Novaya Zemlya and Vaigach.

15 century. Open the Bear Island and the archipelago of Svalbard.

Home 16 century. Created the first Chart of the Arctic Ocean. Opens the western part of the Northern Sea Route.

Mid-century 18 1733 year. The Great Northern Expedition, describes and creates maps of the Siberian coast of the Arctic Ocean.

In 1874 year on steam ships begin Kara expedition through the Kara Sea to the mouths of the rivers Ob and Yenisei.

Please note, all these discoveries and travel taking place on the territory of which the maps of countries all over the world, is called "dead land", impenetrable and does not livable. What successful and denied Russian explorers.

The first flights in the Arctic.

As soon as aviation was born, and the first airplanes appeared, the first flights for ice reconnaissance of the Arctic began.

So, on August 30, 1914, lieutenant, pilot Yan Nagursky made the world's first ice reconnaissance flights.

From the very beginning of Soviet Russia, its leaders well understood the need to develop the Arctic territories, both for the national economy and for the protection of the northern borders of the country. The GlavSevMorPut Directorate was created, and Polar Aviation was created. Polar aviation gathered the most experienced pilots, navigators, mechanics, specialists in radio engineering. Their invaluable experience and skill later became very useful during the years of military conflicts and wars.

Polar aviation and the Arctic and flights in high latitudes, have always been associated with the tragedies that are inevitable with the development of new, and climatically difficult areas. The Arctic hides the mysteries of missing expeditions and aircraft crews. Suffice it to recall the crew of the H-209 Levanevsky aircraft, whose fate has not yet been clarified. Remember their names:

The commander - Sigismund Levanevsky.

The co-pilot - NG Kastanaev.

Radio operator - NY Galkovsky.

Navigator - NI Levchenko.

Mechanic - GT Pobezhimov and NN Godovikov.

The Arctic also gave the country the first Heroes of the Soviet Union. Their names are well remembered by people of the older generation until now. Polar explorers have become an example for thousands of boys and girls, en masse arriving at the flying clubs of the country.

The world's first drifting research stations North Pole SP were also created by the Soviet government. SP-1 was delivered by ANT-6 aircraft in 1937, and since then it has become the custom: all subsequent stations were called SP.

Russian Arctic today.

The President of Russia and the Security Council are well aware of today's problems related to the Arctic, both from a military and economic point of view. And a lot is being done to enhance our presence in the Arctic latitudes at sea, under water, in the air.

In 2000 year it resumed the practice of joint venture (JV-32, previous station SP-31 1989 was planted in the year).

Despite Western sanctions, Russia is continuing exploration in the Arctic.

For evidence of Russian sea shelf accessories, 2007 summer, during an unprecedented expedition "Arktika-2007», it was proved that the underwater Lomonosov Ridge is an extension of a surface part of the polar Russian ownership.

On the first of December of the past year it has been created operational-strategic command of the Arctic.

What is especially gratifying for the author of these lines, returned to Monchegorsk Air Base, home of the MiG-31, for combat duty, to protect the northern borders. I had the honor to stand in this database in the early 80 years when the MiG-31 yet acted on arms.

And still, it was nice to see strong, well-equipped fighters from our group Arctic news channels.

Russian Arctic areas have been and will be Russian, on the ground, on ice, in the air, at sea and under it.
